The practice
Achilles THE WALKING
CLINIC is the only clinic in the Midlands dedicated to walking.
It specialises in the treatment of subtle mechanical disorders
of walking.
We treat pain, in the
heel, forefoot, ankle, shin and knee. We are particularly interested
in mechanical low back pain that worsens on walking.
We are also enthusiastic
about performance. Walk better, further, for less effort, and
less wear and tear.
We evaluate children's
gait-style, particularly where there is a family history of foot
and walking-related problems, or where posture seems poor.
We are often asked
to check orthoses and assess their suitability objectively. We
can and do analyse problem orthoses.
The Walking Clinic
has its own dedicated orthotics laboratory. We don't contract
out the making of orthoses and neither do we manufacture for anyone
else.
At the heart of The
Walking Clinic is a particularly advance form of in-shoe computerised
pressure measurement technology: Tekscan F Scan. This is used
in the evaluation of gait-style and orthotic performance. It is
used in conjunction with slow-motion video.
In addition to orthoses
we also adjust and mobilise joints in the foot and leg and restore
muscle-balance in a majority of our patients.
The practice is operated
by walkers and its underlying philosophy is that the foot has
its own support mechanisms which, when compromised, can be made
to work better by the appropriate orthoses and exercises. We believe
that arch supports weaken the foot.
