Volunteering opportunities Perhaps the best aspect of being a Podiatrist is having a skill that can be of immediate and direct benefit to others. Obviously you need most of your time to earn your living but if you want to get out there and do something a bit different you'll find plenty of reward from time spent volunteering. Here are a few organisations that could get good value from your time.
Education and Information The
Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists,
only for members of the SCP there are numerous links to educational
/ CPD content and a very important message forum where it is possible
and advised to make your comments about UK podiatry and the running
of the SCP. The
Diabetic Foot, a
good refresher on caring for the diabetic foot and a fantastic opportunity
to download and print out foot care advice in 30 languages, including
Arabic, Chinese, Swahili and Welsh to name a few. So if your Bangladeshi
or Tagalog isn't quite cutting it with some of your patients make
sure you pay a visit! Podiatry
Mailbase, a global
forum for podiatry professionals to share ideas and contribute to
discussions by e-mail. There is an emphasis on biomechanics but all
topics are encouraged. Users must register at the site before they
can contribute. Podiatry
Arena, another global
podiatry forum but with areas for UK specific topics. Very user-friendly,
moderated and attended. Recommended. The
Podiatry Forum, a
busy Canada web-based forum with more general topics discussed. Contributions
are invited from professionals and students alike. Canadian
Podiatric Medical Students Association,
principally for students this site could be of interest to UK Podiatrists
considering a move to Canada. With practices for sale, work opportunities
and links to the Canadian Podiatric Medical Associations, it's a good
first stop for finding useful information. Wheeless'
Textbook of Orthopaedics.
Online textbook in an easily searched format. A very useful source
of lower limb anatomy and pathology reference. Podiatric
Acupuncture. An independent
organisation set-up to provide information and training for Podiatrists
with an interest in combining regular podiatry modalities with acupuncture. OrthoticTechnicians.

Podiatric orthopaedic discussion forum where list members can discuss
